5 Lies About Video That Are Keeping You Invisible

Discover the five biggest myths about video that are stopping you from growing your authority—and what to do instead.

You already know that video is powerful. You’ve seen your competitors use it. You’ve watched industry leaders dominate with it.

And yet… you still haven’t started.

Not properly. Not consistently.

Because in your head, video still doesn’t feel quite right for you.

You tell yourself you’re too busy. You don’t like being on camera. Your audience isn’t watching video anyway.

Sound familiar?

The truth is, you’re not alone. These doubts aren’t personal failings—they’re just bad information that’s been drilled into you over time.

So today, I’m calling out the five biggest myths about video marketing—the ones that are quietly holding you back from growing your authority, building trust, and making your business stand out.

1️⃣ “Only Influencers and Entertainers Should Be on Video”

This is one of the biggest blockers I hear from business owners.

“Video is for social media stars, not serious professionals like me.”

But here’s what’s actually happening:

Decision-makers don’t trust influencers anymore.

They’re sick of polished but empty content. They don’t want to hear from “thought leaders” with no real experience.

What they do want? Experts.

They want real professionals—people who have actually worked in their industry, solved real problems, and know what they’re talking about.

That’s you.

And yet, while you sit there overthinking whether video is “for you,” your competitors—who are less experienced than you—are out there sharing their insights, building authority, and winning clients because they’re visible.

Video isn’t about being a performer. It’s about being seen as the go-to person in your industry.

And right now? You’re invisible.

2️⃣ “I Need to Be Perfect on Camera”

Let me guess—you won’t record a video until:

  • The lighting is perfect.

  • You’ve written (and rewritten) a script.

  • Your background looks professional.

  • You can deliver it flawlessly in one take.

That day never comes.

And do you know why? Because the best video content isn’t perfect—it’s real.

In fact, polished, overproduced videos often feel less trustworthy than raw, unfiltered content.

People don’t connect with perfection. They connect with humans.

A small mistake? A filler word? A messy bookshelf in the background? Those things actually help make you relatable.

And in a world where AI is mass-producing soulless, “perfect” content, imperfection is your biggest advantage.

3️⃣ “Video is Only for Personal Brands—Not Serious Professionals”

This one needs shutting down immediately.

Video isn’t just for “personal brands” trying to build a following. It’s a tool for establishing credibility, educating your audience, and accelerating trust.

The most successful professionals in 2025 will be the ones who show up.

  • The consultant who shares insights from real projects.

  • The lawyer who breaks down complicated contracts into simple explanations.

  • The financial expert who talks people through market trends.

This isn’t about chasing vanity metrics. It’s about showing your expertise at scale.

Video isn’t optional anymore—it’s how professionals build trust faster than ever before.

4️⃣ “My Audience Doesn’t Watch Video”

I hear this excuse all the time.

“My audience prefers text. They don’t watch videos.”

Really? Because I guarantee they do.

Maybe they’re not clicking on hour-long webinars, but they’re definitely stopping to read video subtitles as they scroll.

They’re watching short clips when something catches their eye.

And even if they don’t watch, a video with captions still gets your message across.

It’s not about whether they like video. It’s about making sure your content exists in multiple formats so it reaches people in different ways.

And video? It’s the easiest content to repurpose.

One recording can be:

  • A full-length video

  • Short clips

  • Blog posts

  • Quote graphics

  • Social media posts

Video isn’t about forcing people to watch—it’s about making your expertise accessible in every format.

5️⃣ “I Don’t Have Time to Make Videos”

Let’s be honest. You do have time—you just haven’t prioritised it.

If you truly believed video could grow your business, you’d make time for it.

The problem is, you’re not convinced it’s worth it yet.

Here’s the reality:

  • If you’re writing LinkedIn posts, you could record a 2-minute video instead.

  • If you’re answering client questions, you could film yourself explaining the answer once—then reuse it forever.

  • If you’re networking, video lets people feel like they already know you before you even meet.

The most time-consuming way to market your business? Manually answering the same questions over and over again.

The most efficient way? Recording once and letting video work for you.

So… What’s Your Excuse Now?

I’ve just ripped apart the five biggest excuses holding you back from video.

So what’s left?

What’s actually stopping you from hitting record?

Because if you don’t start showing up, someone else will.

And in 2025, the people who get seen are the ones who get the business.

Time to make sure that’s you.
