Let’s address the elephant in the content room:
Is it okay to share personal content on LinkedIn?
Short answer: yes – if it’s done right. Longer answer? Let me explain.
Because the truth is, personal content – used well – is one of the most powerful tools you’ve got. And right now, a lot of people are either overdoing it or not doing it at all.
Most of us fall into one of two camps:
You’re still carrying your old corporate baggage. You think everything has to be “professional” – meaning stiff, scripted, or safe.
You’re watching the feed turn into Instagram-lite and wondering if there’s any value left in posting a photo of your dog or your Sunday roast.
There’s a middle ground. And it’s magic when you hit it.
Where the Real Connection Happens
Personal content doesn’t mean sharing your whole life.
It means showing who you are – in moments that matter.
It means allowing your audience to see the person behind the brand. Not just the service, not just the offer – you.
The way you think. The stuff you care about. The beliefs that shape the work you do.
When I posted a photo of me and my son at the Sunderland football playoffs, I didn’t do it because I thought it would convert. I did it because it meant something. It reflected what I value: family, time well spent, being human.
And you know what? It connected. Not just because it was relatable – but because it was real. It gave people a reference point for me. And for the kind of person they might end up working with.
You’re Not a Brand. You’re a Person.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Most people aren’t buying your service. They’re buying you.
At Javelin, we’re not the only team who can repurpose content well. We’re not the only ones offering fast turnarounds, clean edits, or solid captions.
But our clients work with us because they trust us to get it right. Because they like how we show up. Because our content feels like a conversation – not a pitch.
And that only happens when we’re honest about who we are.
You Don’t Need to Be Perfect – Just Consistent
I used to worry about the background on my calls. About whether I should get a neon sign. Or repaint the wall. Or make the lighting softer.
Never once – not once – has a client commented on any of it.
What they do comment on is how easy it is to work with us. That’s not down to the background. That’s down to how we show up.
So yeah, I might get a Javelin logo up on the wall one day. But I’m not holding off on posting content until everything’s studio-polished. That’s not the point. And for most of us, it never will be.

How to Make Personal Content Work Without Overdoing It
Here’s how I keep it balanced:
No scheduling personal posts. If it’s personal, it’s in the moment. If I’m not feeling it – it doesn’t go out.
No empty oversharing. I don’t post emotional content unless there’s something useful in it for the reader. A takeaway. A moment that might resonate.
Don’t chase engagement. I’m not posting personal stories to get likes. I’m doing it to build familiarity – and attract people who think like me.
Mix it into your strategy. It’s seasoning, not the whole meal. You’re not a lifestyle blogger. You’re a business owner. So show the person behind the work, not a highlight reel of your week.
Let People Choose You
When you show up as yourself, you make it easy for people to decide if you’re for them. That’s powerful.
Because when you attract the right people, everything gets easier. Sales calls feel natural. Projects flow better. Trust builds faster.
And just as importantly – the wrong people will move on.
And that’s exactly what you want.
What Personal Content Actually Does
Let’s get clear. You’re not posting personal content to go viral. You’re not posting to talk about yourself. You’re posting to create alignment.
To say: “This is who I am. This is what I stand for. If that resonates with you – great. Let’s chat.”
Because here’s the secret:
👉 Personal content isn’t about being personal. 👉 It’s about being recognisable.
You want someone to see your post, your face, your words – and know instantly: “Yep, that’s them.”
That’s how trust starts. And that’s what converts.
Final Thought: You Are the Differentiator
Let’s be honest – your services aren’t that different from others in your space. The price probably isn’t wildly different either. What’s different… is you.
So help people see you. Let them find the human behind the posts. Be pro-ish. Be imperfect. Be real.
And do it on your terms.
That’s the real value of personal content. Not the metrics. Not the clicks. The connection.
And once you’ve found your people? Everything else gets easier.
