Scared of Recording? Do This First

Scared to publish your first clip? I hit publish terrified—and it changed everything. Learn why imperfect moments build real confidence.

I want you to picture yourself standing at the edge of a diving board – heart racing, knees wobbling. That was me the day I recorded something terrified, shaky, and totally unpolished.

The voice sounded boring, I stumbled mid-sentence, and a voice in my head begged me to delete the whole thing. Instead, I clicked publish – and it changed everything.

Your Flaws Won’t Ruin Your Story

I spent fifteen years in corporate retail, never expecting to speak publicly. Then I moved into an AI startup, and got invited onto a big retail podcast – nervous doesn’t cover it!!!

The first ten minutes were AWFUL.

I hyperventilated, panicked, and felt like an idiot. I panicked that I’d say something unforgivable.

Yet, something incredible happened: once I pushed through, I found my rhythm. I stumbled fewer times. My message became clearer. I realised the world didn’t notice my nerves – I just thought they did.

“Your audience won’t judge your little stumbles. They care about what you say and how you say it.”

By sharing my imperfect, vulnerable self, I built trust. I moved from invisible to invited. That podcast wasn’t just a recording – it was a turning point.

Why Imperfection Wins

Perfection paralyses. We find every excuse: bad lighting, the wrong angle, not enough editing. Meanwhile, nothing gets shared. That’s the real problem.

  • Action builds confidence: Each publish makes the next one easier.

  • Someone needs your voice: Even your “worst” content will provide value to someone out there.

  • Momentum is magic: Consistency compounds. A shaky start is still a start.

I have 800 hours of footage on YouTube, and I STILL hate how I look and sound.

Still, that first shaky clip trended, opened doors, sparked conversations, and led to new relationships. Imagine if I’d kept hiding instead.

From leaflets in East London to expat students across five continents—this week’s MarketPulse guest proves you don’t need a degree to make a global impact.

In this episode, Seyam Hamed shares how he dropped out of university to co-found a tutoring company with his sister, and turned it into a thriving business helping British students navigate overseas curriculums. You’ll learn how they carved out a niche in a crowded market, and why growing slow – and intentionally -has been their competitive edge.

From family dynamics to late-night tutoring across time zones, this conversation is equal parts insightful and inspiring.

Tune in to hear how Seyam is rethinking education, success, and the kind of business that doesn’t just scale – but lasts.

Season 2 of MarketPulse: Pros & Pioneers Podcast is all about the amazing story of our guests. From Hollywood producers to a refugee turned rockstar, Guinness World Record Holders, and a journey from prison to a £10m business…. we’re diving deep on the journey, and how we rarely end up where we meant to… but we DO end up where we were MEANT to be!!

Nerves Are Your Ally

Feeling fear isn’t failure – it’s fuel. Nerves mean you care. Channel them. Use that energy to speak up, not shy away.

Think of pros in sales or journalism. They feel nerves before every call or broadcast. But they’ve learned to use that adrenaline. If they can do it hundreds of times and grow from it, so can you.

Your Challenge

  • 🎥 Grab your phone or laptop.

  • Record something short—under five minutes. It can be a voice note, a selfie clip, anything you’ll actually finish.

  • No editing. No second guesses. No re-records.

  • Hit publish—on wherever you’re comfortable. LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, a private friend group.

  • Tag me. I want to celebrate your win and remind you how powerful your voice is.

Celebrate the small steps because they all matter. That trembling video? It’s the one that proves you showed up. That shaky audio? It’s better than silence. Every imperfect publish is a leap toward skill, confidence, and authenticity.

Why This Matters to Your Business

  1. Visibility blooms from vulnerability. People connect with realness.

  2. Confidence attracts clients. Showing up builds trust.

  3. Consistency grows your presence. Each follow-up becomes easier and more natural.

If you wait to feel ready, the best opportunities pass by. Don’t let tomorrow be your mistake. Hit record. Press publish. The real transformation happens in the messy middle – and in the doing, not the planning.

Let me know when you do. I’ll cheer you on the next time I click on your content.
