Break Free from Corporate Language: Be Real, Be You

Discover why authenticity is key to winning over your audience. Learn how to ditch corporate jargon and create content that resonates.

No More Corporate Nonsense: Why Being You Wins Every Time

This week, I’m cutting straight to the chase: If you’re still stressing about sounding too corporate in your videos or content, it’s time to stop. Authenticity is the name of the game, and trust me, your audience wants you, not some polished, corporate version of you.

The Trap of Corporate Jargon

I get it, we all come from environments where we were told how to speak, what to say, and which buzzwords to use. It feels like you need to sound a certain way to be professional. But here’s the deal: You’re running your own show now. That means it’s time to leave all that corporate jargon behind and start sounding like yourself.

People can tell when you’re trying to sound polished and perfect. And guess what? That’s boring. Your audience wants to hear you—your real voice, your real opinions, and your real passion.

Talk About What You Love, and the Rest Will Follow

Find the topics that get you fired up and start talking about them. Don’t worry about whether you’re following the corporate script—just be honest and real. If you’re passionate, it will come through, and that’s when people really start listening.

If You Wouldn’t Say It in Real Life, Don’t Say It Online

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever heard: If you wouldn’t say something face-to-face, don’t say it on LinkedIn, in a video, or in any content. The moment you start trying to sound corporate, you’re putting up a barrier between you and the people you’re trying to connect with.

Ask yourself: Does this sound like me? If it doesn’t, scrap it. It’s that simple.

Tools I Use to Keep Video Real & Simple

No need to overcomplicate things. Here’s what I personally recommend for creating videos that feel authentic without the corporate gloss:

  • Riverside.fm: My go-to for high-quality recording that makes me look (and sound) sharp without needing a full production team.
  • Streamyard: Perfect for live streaming and making real-time connections with my audience.
  • Descript: Makes editing video and audio super easy, even for someone like me who’d rather not be stuck editing all day.

What to Remember Next Time You Hit Record

Here’s the secret sauce: Every time you’re about to create content, just ask yourself, “Would I say this to a real person, face-to-face?” If the answer is no, you’re overthinking it.

✅ Be real.

✅ Be human.

✅ Use tools that let you focus on you, not perfection.

Give it a go and let me know how it works for you. I promise, the results are going to blow you away.
