Simple Trick to Spark New Content Ideas

Struggling to record? Here’s how I turned blank pages into content ideas that actually worked — and why the struggle itself became the story.

This morning I sat down to record, stared at the camera… and thought, “Nope.”

Not because I don’t care, or because I don’t want to help people. But because I just didn’t feel like it.

And then my head started its usual game:

  • “You’ve had six weeks off.”

  • “Everyone’s going to notice the gap.”

  • “You’ve got nothing new to say.”

That spiral is real. If you’ve ever tried to create content when your brain feels foggy, you’ll know what I mean.

But here’s the funny part: the moment I admitted I didn’t know what to talk about… that became the topic.

When Life Gets in the Way

The last six weeks have been summer holidays. Great fun, family time during the day, working late at night. I wouldn’t swap it. But it meant newsletters slipped. I had a backlog, so you probably didn’t notice. But for me, it felt like falling behind.

And when I sat back down to record, the weight of that gap sat on my shoulders. I was second-guessing myself. Overthinking. Wondering if anyone even cared.

That’s the bit we don’t often admit. Content creation isn’t always shiny. Sometimes it’s wrestling your own head.

Using AI as a Nudge, Not a Crutch

Here’s what I did: I dumped all my past newsletters into ChatGPT and asked, “What have I already talked about? What new angles are left?”

It didn’t hand me the end content.

It just gave me sparks and ideas.

Enough to jog my brain out of panic mode.

And honestly, that’s all I needed.

Because deep down, I don’t want AI to do this for me. I want it to give me the matchsticks, so I can strike the flame myself.

The Power of Mid-Form

I’ve realised not everything has to be perfect long-form essays or 30-second TikToks. There’s this sweet spot in the middle. Call it mid-form.

It’s long enough to share context and honesty, but short enough not to drain the life out of you. And it works. People connect with the messy middle. They see the human behind the content.

What This Means for You

If you’re sitting there staring at a blank page, thinking “I’ve got nothing” — that’s your story. Talk about it. Share how you’re dealing with it. Someone reading will breathe out and think, “Oh thank god, it’s not just me.”

Here’s a little framework that’s helped me:

  1. Collect old stuff you’ve already written.

  2. Run it through AI to spark new angles.

  3. Don’t look for perfect — just grab one spark that resonates.

  4. Hit record. Tell the story of what’s going on in your head.

That’s it. Nothing fancy. Just honesty.

Final Thought

The irony of this week’s newsletter is that the block itself became the content. And maybe that’s the real lesson: content doesn’t have to come from brilliance. It can come from the struggle, the doubts, the “I don’t feel like it” days.

Because that’s where people connect with you. And connection builds trust. And trust builds authority.

So next time you’re stuck — share the ‘stuckness’. That’s content too.
