Inject Passion into Your Videos and Content

Welcome back to Content Classroom! This week, I want to talk about the power of being passionate in your videos, content, and copy. If there’s one thing people know about me, it’s that I’m super passionate about what I do. That energy drives me to perform for my audience and genuinely help them. Why? Because I understand my “why.”

We’ve all sat through corporate sessions where Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle video is played repeatedly. The first time, it’s enlightening; by the fifteenth, it’s redundant. Yet, the core message is crucial: understand your why. The frustration for many is the lack of actionable steps in that video. Thankfully, there’s a follow-up book, “Find Your Why,” which helps pinpoint your specific passion and reason for doing what you do.

Your true why goes deeper than external motivators like family, money, or material possessions. It’s about a deeper drive that propels you to excel and make a positive impact. Those who shine on camera and create engaging content have a strong belief in what they do, often driven by a desire to contribute positively to society.

For a long time, I pondered my own why. It turns out that my drive has been the same across various roles—helping people make better decisions to improve their lives. Whether I was selling kitchens, working in analytics, or serving as a police officer, my underlying motivation remained the same. This passion comes through in my videos and content.

Many people tell me they’re great in person but struggle to convey that same energy on camera. The beauty of video is that it allows you to share your passion and enthusiasm broadly. The key is to get past the mental block of seeing yourself on camera. Focus on the good your video will do for others, which can help you overcome self-consciousness.

I still dislike seeing myself on camera and hearing my voice. But I push through because I know others find value in what I share. When I speak at webinars or conferences, my passion resonates with the audience, and that’s what your content needs to do—engage people emotionally with your passion and expertise.

Here’s how to bring that passion to your content:

      1. Understand Your Why: Dig deep to understand what truly drives you. It’s more profound than superficial goals and will help you stay motivated.

      1. Show Genuine Emotion: Don’t be afraid to show your true feelings—whether it’s excitement, happiness, or even frustration. Authenticity resonates.

      1. Make It About Them: Frame your content around how you can help your audience. Focus on the value you provide and the impact you can have on their lives.
      2. Reframe Your Perspective: Shift your mindset from worrying about the paycheck to focusing on how you’re helping others. This will naturally bring more passion into your content.
      3. Practice and Feedback: Regularly practice your delivery and seek feedback. Adjust based on what works best to convey your passion effectively.

Passion in your content isn’t just about making an impression; it’s about creating an emotional connection that converts your audience into loyal customers. By focusing on the value you bring and genuinely caring about your audience’s needs, your passion will shine through, and you’ll see a positive response.

If you’re struggling with video or written content, it might be time to reassess your approach. Shift the focus from just completing a task to truly helping and engaging your audience. When you create content from a place of support and value, it resonates more deeply.

I hope this gives you some food for thought and practical takeaways to infuse more passion into your content.
