Unlocking Engagement: Creating Mini Clips from Long Videos

Discover how to transform long videos into engaging mini clips. Learn the step-by-step process to boost your content strategy and maximize engagement.

Unlock the Power of Mini Clips

Have you ever found yourself staring at a long video you’ve created (think webinar, podcast etc), wondering how to make it digestible and shareable? If that’s you, then you’re in the right place. Today, we’re diving deep into the art of turning your long-form content into a series of mini clips—a Soundbite Symphony, if you will.

If you think of your long-form video as a concert—great for die-hard fans but hard for newbies to sit through—then mini clips are like the hit singles. Easy to consume, easy to share, and just enough to make you want more.

Grab Their Attention: Why Short Clips are a Game Changer

People are busy. They’re scrolling through LinkedIn between meetings, skimming articles during lunch breaks, and watching videos while waiting for their next Zoom call. They don’t have time for a feature-length documentary about your business, but they might have a few minutes for an exciting snippet.

Mini clips give you the ability to hook your audience instantly. They are versatile and can be repurposed in numerous ways. Dive into your existing content… What are the powerful lines, exciting moments, or enlightening insights that can stand alone? Start making a list!

Warning: Avoid going too short. While brevity is good, each clip should tell a complete story in its own right.

The Director’s Cut: How to Create Your Own Mini Clips

You want both quality AND quantity, but how do you get there? Start experimenting with one of your longer videos. Produce three different mini clips… then have a think about how many more you could find if you spent more time on it!

Warning: Don’t lose the essence of your original content. Make sure that while cutting and editing, you maintain the original message and tone. (Unless you’re trying to find things you can repurpose!)

Tool Time: Software to Make You a Clip Maestro

We love Descript, and it even comes with a free membership with Squadcast for recording in 4K – (Similar to Riverside). These tools can help you become a content conductor—leading your Soundbite Symphony to greatness.

Set aside time to master these tools. If you’re struggling, consider outsourcing this task—your time as a CEO or Founder is valuable!

Unlock Expert Level: Pro Tips to Elevate Your Clips

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: perfectionism. Many of us get caught up in making our content absolutely flawless, but guess what?

People aren’t looking for perfect; they’re looking for authentic and relatable.

Master your templates for a consistent look and feel – make sure to keep them updated as you tweak your layouts. Identify common transcription errors that occur due to accents or vernacular, and fix them early. (Descript hates me saying “Show” and always transcribes it as “Shore” – you can do a ‘find all’ to fix these things – make a list of common ones, and save yourself a tonne of time)

Warning: Avoid spending excessive time editing. The goal is to produce impactful content efficiently.
